Price guide

What affects the price in Greece

Rental prices in Greece change with the season, the type of car and how early you book. The live search shows the total for your dates.

SeasonMonthsWhat to expect
Low seasonNovember – MarchLowest prices and the widest choice. Some suppliers keep shorter opening hours.
Shoulder seasonApril – June and September – OctoberGood weather and mid-range prices. Book ahead for Easter and holiday weeks.
High seasonJuly – AugustHighest demand and prices. Book early, especially automatics and family cars.

From €2/day is an indicative low-season starting rate for selected Greece offers, not a live quote.

Tips to save

  • Book as early as you can, especially for July and August.
  • If your dates are flexible, avoid the peak weeks.
  • Manual cars are often cheaper than automatics.
  • Compare the total price, including deposit, protection and extras.
  • A longer rental can lower the daily rate.
Documents

What you need to collect your car

Driving licence

A valid licence that meets the supplier’s age and licence-holding rules. Some licences also need an International Driving Permit.

Passport or ID card

Bring the passport or national ID you used for the booking.

Payment method

Use the method named in your booking. A card in the driver’s name may be required for the deposit.

Booking voucher

Keep it on your phone or printed, with the supplier’s meeting instructions.

Driving guide

Driving in Greece: rules and practical tips

Rules of the road

  1. Drive on the right and overtake on the left.
  2. Seat belts are compulsory for every passenger.
  3. Do not use a handheld phone while driving.
  4. Children must travel in a suitable child seat. Request one when you book.
  5. Follow the posted limits: usually 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on open roads and more on motorways.
  6. The legal alcohol limit is low. Do not drink and drive.
  7. Watch the signs at roundabouts and give way as indicated.
  8. Park only where it is allowed. Fines apply for illegal parking.

Parking

Town-centre parking is often paid or limited. Look for signed car parks outside historic centres and check for restrictions.

Fuel

Fuel stations are common on main roads. On small islands and mountain routes they can be far apart and close early, so fill up before long drives.

Toll roads

Motorways on the mainland, including around Athens and Thessaloniki, have toll stations. Keep some cash or a card for tolls.

Greece has motorways, mountain roads and island lanes. Plan the route and allow more time than the map suggests.

A few things before you go.

Clear answers for a smoother start. Always check the terms of the car you choose.

All rental questions
Can I find car rental in Greece from €2 per day?

€2/day is an indicative low-season starting rate for selected rentals in Greece, not a live quote or a rate promised for every destination. Prices depend on dates, rental length, car and availability. Check the live search for your trip total, delivery and optional extras.

Can I rent a car in Greece without a deposit?

Selected offers may have a zero security deposit. Use the no-deposit filter and read the car’s terms. A paid protection option may be required. A zero deposit does not automatically remove every liability or mean no advance payment.

Can I book without a credit card?

Some rental companies accept another payment method. Use the no-credit-card filter and check the accepted method for the booking payment, the balance and any deposit. These can be different.

Does no deposit mean no excess?

No. The deposit is security held during the rental. The excess is an amount you may be responsible for under the protection terms. Check both figures and any exclusions for the specific car.

Can I pay with a debit card or cash?

Only where the selected offer allows it. Confirm the accepted method, cardholder requirements and currency for the balance and any deposit before booking.

Is an advance payment the same as a security deposit?

No. An advance payment contributes towards the rental price. A security deposit is a separate amount held or collected as security. Read the payment breakdown for your booking.

Is full insurance included in every rental?

No. Included protection and optional upgrades vary. Review the excess, covered events and exclusions. A description such as full coverage does not mean every incident or use of the car is covered.

What should I compare besides the daily rate?

Compare the total for the complete rental, deposit, excess, fuel policy, mileage, pickup and return arrangements, and any extras you need. Include delivery, one-way and out-of-hours charges where applicable.

Who provides the rental car?

The rental company identified in the selected offer supplies the vehicle and sets its rental conditions. RentalCarsGreece.com is an independent comparison and referral website. Review the supplier and booking-service details before payment.

Is there an extra fee for using this website?

We may earn a referral commission from eligible bookings. We do not add a separate website-use fee. Your selected offer shows the rental price and any services you choose.

Can I collect at a Greek airport?

Airport pickup is available where shown for the selected car. Choose the exact airport location and check whether collection uses a desk, meeting point, office or shuttle. A destination search alone does not confirm the handover point.

Can a car be delivered to my hotel?

Hotel delivery depends on the supplier, car and address. Confirm that your accommodation is served, where the handover will take place and whether there is a delivery charge.

What documents do I need to rent a car in Greece?

Bring your driving licence, a passport or national ID card, the payment method named in your booking and your booking voucher. The supplier may ask for more, so check your offer before you travel.

Do I need an International Driving Permit?

Licences issued in EU and EEA countries are accepted in Greece. Drivers with a licence from another country may need an International Driving Permit with their national licence. Check the current requirements for your licence and confirm them with the supplier.

What is the minimum age to rent a car?

Many suppliers set a minimum age of about 21 and require the licence to have been held for at least a year. Young-driver fees and higher age limits for some categories can apply. The offer shows the rules for each car.

Is mileage unlimited?

Many offers include unlimited mileage, but not all of them. The allowance is shown in the offer’s conditions, so check it before choosing a car for a long trip.

Can I add a second driver?

Additional drivers can usually be added as an option. Each driver must meet the supplier’s requirements and be named in the rental agreement. Check any fee in the offer.

Can I return the car at a different location?

Some offers allow a different return location. Choose it when you search, because a one-way fee may apply. Check the price and opening hours at both locations.

Can I cancel or change my booking?

Cancellation and change rules depend on the selected offer. Some offers include free cancellation until a set time. Check the cancellation terms in your offer and on your voucher.
