One way car rental in Greece
One-way rental can save a return journey when your trip starts and finishes in different places, but availability depends on the supplier network. A mainland airport-to-city return is different from moving a vehicle between islands, where ferry permission becomes a separate issue.
What to know before you book
Where one-way rentals make sense
Examples include Athens Airport to central Athens or Piraeus, Chania to Heraklion, and airport-to-resort returns on larger islands. Availability depends on where the supplier operates and whether they can accept the vehicle at the return location.
One-way fees
A relocation fee may be included in the live total or listed separately in the conditions. Compare the final payable amount rather than assuming a one-way rental costs the same as returning to the pickup point.
Ferries are a different question
Do not assume a one-way booking gives permission to take a rental car on a ferry. Ferry travel can require prior approval, special insurance or be prohibited by the supplier.
Airport timing
If the return is at an airport, leave enough time for fuel, vehicle inspection, shuttle transfer if applicable and terminal check-in. Very early or late returns can have special instructions.
How to compare
Enter different pickup and drop-off locations in the search if supported, then read the exact one-way fee, mileage, fuel and return instructions before confirming.
One way car rental in Greece: common questions
Can I pick up in Chania and return in Heraklion?
Selected suppliers can offer one-way rentals between Chania and Heraklion. Availability and any relocation fee depend on the exact dates and car.
Can I return a mainland rental car on a Greek island?
Do not assume this is possible. It would involve ferry travel and a supplier with the right return network. Check permission before booking.
Is the one-way fee included in the price?
It may be included or shown as a separate charge. Check the live price breakdown and supplier conditions.
Can I return at a different airport?
Selected airport pairs are available, especially where one supplier serves both locations. Search the exact pair for live availability.
Confirm the destination office before planning the route
A different city in the search form does not guarantee every supplier can accept the car there. Check the complete one-way total and the exact return office, opening time and key procedure. For a trip between Crete’s airports, compare the relocation charge with returning to the original airport. Mainland-to-island travel also needs ferry permission and supplier agreement; a one-way booking alone does not grant either. Save the accepted return location on the voucher.
