Make Chania your starting point.
A car is most useful when you head beyond the harbour: towards the Akrotiri peninsula, the coastal resorts west of town or the villages inland. If your first days are spent in the Old Town, consider collecting the car when your day trips begin.
Tell the supplier exactly where you will stay. A hotel described as Chania may be outside the centre, and the agreed pickup point may be a nearby accessible street. Allow room in the car for luggage as well as passengers, particularly when requesting child seats.
